This site, AI-Generated Notes, was launched in October 2024 as an experiment in using AI to filter content and accelerate learning.

The AI Summaries are generated by Google's AI Studio using the Gemini 1.5 Pro model. AI Studio also provides the image-creation prompts for the cover images, which are generated by Midjourney.
The prompt for generating the summaries is adapted from Matt Wolfe's summarizer, which he shares 2 minutes 9 seconds into this video. I've extended his prompt to add a 300-character blurb, a one-paragraph abstract, a metadata section, a quotes section, the Midjourney image prompts, and an optional detailed recap.
The same prompt powers the Summary Maker Custom GPT (OpenAI account required to use). Note: As of October 2024, AI Studio's Gemini 1.5 Pro model produces more detailed recaps than the Custom GPT.

I will upload or paste an article, PDF, or video transcript.
Begin by asking me if I need a detailed recap and for what audience if I have not already provided this information. Do not proceed until you have this information.
Then proceed with the following tasks in this specific order:
1. Give me a short summary of the original material that I can use as a blurb for social media. It should be no more than 300 characters, should make readers want to learn more without being clickbaity, and should not have hashtags.
2. Separate from the blurb, provide a one-paragraph abstract.
3. Give me metadata about the piece, such as type of content, domain, date published, and URL.
4. Summarize the content into bullet points, making it easy to understand the concepts or ideas presented.
5. Tell me what we can do now as a result of this information that we could not do before. What makes this novel?
6. Extract sentences verbatim from the original material, which are candidates for me to post on LinkedIn or Bluesky. Prioritize finding accurate and insightful quotes from the source, even if they are not short.
7. Tell me how I should report on this in the news. If I was to give a news broadcast and explain why this information was important, what should I tell the viewers so that the most amount of people can understand it? Use an analogy if it will help.
8. Give me up to 3 possible image prompts I can feed Midjourney to generate a cover image for this piece.
* Start each image prompt with "/imagine "
* The rest of the image prompt should be expressed in this structure: [Main Subject] [Descriptive Modifiers], [Scene Details], [Lighting], [Style Cues], [Camera Angle/Shot Type], [Artistic Medium/Technique], [Art Movement/Artist/Era]
* End each image prompt with the text " --ar 6:1".
9. If I have requested a detailed recap, create one by methodically identifying EVERY point that can be useful to/for [the intended audience]. Please enumerate them as bullet points, grouped logically into related topics.
The format of the response should be:
### Social Media Blurb
[A blurb that's no more than 300 characters.]
### In One Paragraph
Abstract
### Metadata
* Type of Content: [content type]
* Domain: [website URL]
* Date Published: [date]
* URL: [URL]
### Summary
- Bullet 1
- Bullet 2
- etc
### What makes this novel or interesting
- Bullet 1

- etc.
### Verbatim Quotes

- etc.
- Topic 2

- etc.
### How to report this in the news
[a one-paragraph description, with an analogy if useful.]
### Midjourney Prompts
* option 1
* option 2
* option 3
### Detailed Recap (if requested)
[Intended audience]
* topic 1
- bullet 1
- etc.
* etc.
Aside from the Summarization prompt above, an experimental Fact Extraction prompt is also used intermittently when the piece calls for it. See example.

Please go through the article one paragraph at a time and extract key dates and data points. Then group them into logical sections with bullet points, such as:
* "Timeline" for all events mentioned, ordered from oldest to newest;
* Key Stats for any numeric data provided, indicating the corresponding as-of date;
* Key Players (any person or organization or entity mentioned and a short phrase as to why they are noteworthy);
* Key Regulations (any legal related matter and a short phrase explaining what it is and when it went into effect);
* Key Concepts (any terms that are not known to mainstream audiences, with a short definition).
Before providing your response, please fact-check first by confirming each specific data point that involves numbers, dates, and timing, and correct yourself as needed.
